International Maritime Organization (IMO)

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) granted Poland the right to organize in 2018 the World Maritime Day Parallel Event. This is the most important maritime event of the United Nations. The Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation is responsible for organizing the event.

The World Maritime Day will be held in Szczecin between 13th and 16th June 2018. The topic of the event is: “IMO 70: Our heritage – better shipping for a better future”. It is worth to mention that in 2018 we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of IMO. The World Maritime Day in Szczecin will be a part of the anniversary celebrations of the IMO, as well as the celebration of the 100th  anniversary of Poland’s independence.

The event includes not only official deliberations and conference devoted to maritime issues, but also a number of accompanying cultural, sports and recreational events available to residents of Szczecin and guests.

On 15th June 2018 Coordinating Secretariat for Maritime Issues will organize a high-level meeting of the Ministries responsible for maritime affairs of the countries of the “16+1” format. It will be a great opportunity to sum up the cooperation so far and present new projects in the area of ​​maritime economy and inland waterway transport. According to the assumption, the participants of this event will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with the offer and infrastructure of the port of Szczecin.
