The Coordinating Secretariat for Maritime Issues “17 + 1” has released an album summarizing the debates on the global challenges facing the maritime economy which were held within the World Maritime Day in Poland.

Highly Qualified Women dominate in the 17+1 format countries

According to the latest Women Forbes ranking, it is easier for women to succeed and have a creer in countries undergoing strong economic transition then in those with stable economies. In countries that are chasing the West and developing twice as fast as the EU average, it is easier to break the “glass ceiling” and get to the top. Women in Poland, Romania and China are leaders in this respect. While we observe a positive phenomenon in the context of maritime education, there is still a long way to go in the context of the maritime labor market.

A glance at the maritime economy from a women perspective

The year 2019 was established by the IMO International Maritime Organization as the year of recognizing the importance of the role of women in maritime economy. Highly qualified women who managed to gain their place on the maritime labor market showed their strength, qualifications and determination in gaining a high professional position. Women in Poland, Romania and China are leaders in this respect. The current UN, IMO trends, the emerging new formula of the sustainable, safe and ecological shipping, seem to be an opportunity to increase the participation of high qualified women on the maritime labor market.

The visit of the People’s Republic of China’s foreign minister to Warsaw

On July the 8th, 2019, ministers f.a. of both countries chaired the II meeting of the Polish-Chinese Intergovernmental Committee. Both sides welcomed the activities of the Coordinating Secretariat for Maritime Issues of Central and Eastern Europe and China.

The Central and Eastern Europe – China Summit 2018 in Sofia

The 7th Central and Eastern Europe – China summit was held on 6-7 July in Sofia. The theme of the meeting was Deep, open cooperation for inclusive prosperity. During the summit Mr. Li Keqiang, Prime Minister of China assured that the Chinese market is open to foreign products and investors.

Promoting cooperation between seaports within the Belt and Road Initiative

During the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2018 Mr. LIU Xiaoming, Vice-Minister of Transport of China delivered a presentation on promoting pragmatic cooperation in seaports along the Belt and Road Initiative. Mr. LIU Xiaoming pointed out the achievements made in Chinese domestic port development. He emphasized that the total cargo throughput of Chinese ports and the volume of containers handled at Chinese ports is the first in the world and that 7 Chinese ports are on list of the world’s top 10 seaports.

World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2018 in Szczecin. The most important maritime event of the United Nations has just ended!

Debates with attendance of 15 ministers from all over the world, world-class experts and more than 800 domestic and foreign participants as well as discussions on the most important challenges facing maritime economies nowadays were the results of the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2018 in Szczecin, which was held on June 13-16 and was organized by the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation of Poland in cooperation with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations.

About the ‘16+1’ format during the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2018 in Szczecin

On the margins of the World Maritime Day Parallel Event 2018 in Szczecin was held a meeting on maritime issues within the ’16+1′ format. The theme of the discussion was “Seaports on the routes of the Belt and Road Initiative”.

Joint Polish and Estonian plans of activities within „16+1” initiative

On May 25th, 2018 Mr. Marek Gróbarczyk, Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation of Poland paid a visit to Tallin and held a bilateral meeting with Ms. Kadri Simson, Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure of Estonia on the board of the „Dar Młodzieży” sailing ship, which moored to the Port of Tallin on the occasion of the ongoing „Independence Sail”

The Szczecin-Świnoujście and Klaipeda seaports are enhancing mutual cooperation

During the official visit of Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki to Vilnius there was signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the authorities of Szczecin-Świnoujście and Klaipeda seaports. The document was signed in the presence of Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Saulius Skvernelis, Prime Minister of Lithuania.
