The activity in the Romanian seaports is carried out in normal conditions, without dysfunctions, the Romanian maritime gateway being operational and open for all flows of goods.
The traffic of goods registered since the beginning of the year is maintained on the increase, as compared to the same period of the last year, 2019 being a year with a record traffic.
The total traffic of freight registered through the ports of Constanta, Midia and Mangalia was of 20.46 million tonnes in the first 4 months of this year, an increase of 3.31% (656,183 tonnes) as compared to the same period of 2019.
The total traffic is structured as follows: 6.04 million tonnes are imported goods, 6.97 million tonnes are exported goods, 5.94 million tonnes transited goods and 1.51 million tonnes cabotage. From the total traffic, the maritime traffic registered 15.62 million tonnes and the river traffic reached 4.84 million tonnes.
The spectacular evolution for the cereals sector was maintained, with a traffic increase of 49.88%, 7.72 million tonnes being registered in the first four months of 2020, compared to 5.1 million tonnes in January – April 2019.
Traffic increases were also registered for the following goods: fertilizers (+23,54%), chemical products (+55,45%), raw or processed minerals (+13,29%), cement, lime (+107,8%), machines, transport equipments (+3,66%).
Traffic decreases were registered for: oil products (-23,06%), iron ores (-31,93%), crude oil (-2,91%), solid mineral fuels (-20,47%), oil seeds, oleaginous fruits (-12,83%), wood (-6,08%).
As for the containerized goods, a sector in which traffic is severely affected worldwide, the decrease for the Romanian maritime ports is insignificant at this time, of 2.73% in terms of quantity of goods, and 1.35% in number for TEU.
The total number of ships operated in the first 4 months of 2020 is higher, of 4,450, compared to 4,152 at the end of April 2019. Today, May 11, 2020, 26 ships are operating in the Romanian maritime ports, and in the next period 51 ships have the arrival notice approved.
The handling of goods in the terminals of the Romanian maritime ports is performed normally, in compliance with all procedures for the prevention of COVID-19 diseases. Maintaining the maritime ports operational is a common priority of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Communications, NC MPA, port operators, all port workers.
